Our Story
SMS Farms began with a question: why should a family need to own a farm to enjoy what a farm gives?
Where the Idea Came From
Syed Najm-Ul-Hassan, has always seen fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, milk and eggs as blessings from Allah, meant to be shared. Yet in a city like Karachi, most families are far moved from where their food is grown. They are busy with jobs, businesses, children's education and running a home. Very few have the land, time or experience to farm for themselves.
He wanted to change that by giving ordinary households a real place in a working farm.
Why a Membership
Running a farm takes land, staff, feed, water, electricity, animal care and constant attention. Few families can manage that alone. But when families come together, the farm becomes something they can share. That is the thinking behind the SMS Farms membership: families contribute, our team does the work, and everyone receives a share of what the farm produces.
The Farm in Gadap
Our farm sits in Gadap, on the edge of Karachi. Here we grow seasonal vegetables and fruit and raise goats, cattle and farm chicken, with ducks, quail and fish coming soon. Member families visit once a month to walk the fields and see their food being produced.
Where We Are Headed
We want SMS Farms to be a farm families can rely on and feel part of. That means being honest about seasons and availability, explaining costs and terms clearly, and running the farm responsibly so it can serve members for many years.
